Offshore IT & Network Infrastructure
Nordic Offshore Systems designs and commissions the IT backbone of cable-lay vessels — servers, CCTV, and fiber networks built for redundancy and harsh offshore conditions, with an IEC 62443 security mindset.
What we do
Nordic Offshore Systems handles the full IT and network scope for cable-lay vessels, from architecture design through offshore commissioning. Work typically covers:
- Server infrastructure design and commissioning for vessel operations
- CCTV system design, installation coordination, and functional testing
- Fiber network design and commissioning — the operational data backbone of the vessel
- Network topology design with redundancy and operational uptime as the primary constraint
- IT and survey interface coordination — ensuring operational systems talk to each other correctly
- System hardening and ruggedized infrastructure for harsh offshore environments, following an IEC 62443 security mindset
As with all Nordic Offshore Systems engagements, deliverables are documentation-grade: network diagrams, SLDs, commissioning records, and revision-controlled baselines you can hand to the vessel owner, class, or the next team on board.
The single-source advantage
On a modern cable-lay vessel, heavy mechanical equipment and digital infrastructure are deeply integrated. Tensioner controls interface with survey systems. CCTV monitors operations across the deck and cable path. The fiber backbone carries operational data that drives real-time decisions offshore.
When the equipment scope and the IT scope are split between different specialists, interface gaps appear — and they surface at the worst time, during commissioning or mid-campaign. Nordic Offshore Systems bridges cable lay equipment and IT infrastructure from a single source, so the integration is designed in from the start, not patched together later.
That combination — CLS expertise and vessel IT from one contact — is not offered by typical IT contractors or by equipment OEMs. It removes a coordination layer and keeps technical accountability in one place.
Experience behind it
Nordic Offshore Systems has designed and commissioned complete IT and network architectures for cable-lay vessels, including work on NKT Victoria and NKT Eleonora. That hands-on vessel work is backed by 16+ years offshore and a record of zero lost-time incidents (zero LTI) across more than 20 projects.
The offshore environment imposes constraints that a land-based IT approach does not account for: vibration, salt air, space constraints, vessel power systems, and the requirement that critical systems stay up regardless of weather or sea state. The infrastructure Nordic Offshore Systems designs is sized and hardened for those conditions.
Who it's for
Nordic Offshore Systems works with two groups on the IT and network scope:
- Cable-laying operators — NKT, Nexans, Prysmian, and similar companies that need onboard IT follow-up during new vessel builds, refits, or campaign mobilisations
- Equipment OEMs — MAATS Tech, Huisman, NOV Remacut, and similar manufacturers that need IT integration support to ensure their systems interface correctly with vessel networks and survey infrastructure
If you are planning a vessel build, managing a refit, or need a specialist to own the IT and network scope for an upcoming campaign, get in touch to discuss the work.
